About Maryland’s Eastern Shore | Maryland’s Mid-Shore Region | The Delmarva Peninsula
Read More: Live. Work. Maryland | Love Where You Live And Work
The Eastern Shore of Maryland includes nine counties along the Chesapeake Bay. Pennsylvania borders across the Northern perimeter, with Delaware to the east and north, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and Virginia’s Eastern Shore on the southernmost border. Maryland and Virginia’s Eastern Shore and all of Delaware comprise what is referred to as the Delmarva Peninsula.
Located within one to two hours of major metropolitan areas such as Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia, the Eastern Shore region is part of the I-95 corridor and offers easy access to Mid-Atlantic cities and attractions. Its economy offers major industry sectors, including healthcare, manufacturing, agriculture, food production, transportation, and distribution.
The Eastern Shore has many different types of environments, from the saltwater marshes along the bay teaming with waterfowl to the lovely old-growth forests inland. With the Chesapeake Bay to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east, the area enjoys moderate temperatures, with winter temperatures often averaging in the mid-30s, producing an annual snowfall of fewer than 12 inches and summer temperature ranges in the upper 80s.
The Eastern Shore is home to the Delmarva Shorebirds, a minor league baseball team who plays Class A baseball in the South Atlantic League at the Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury. The Shorebirds are affiliated with the Baltimore Orioles.
The Eastern Shore boasts some of the finest public and private schools in the State as well as a unique variety of colleges including Cecil Community College, Chesapeake College, Salisbury University, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Washington College, and Wor-Wic Community College.
Maryland’s Eastern Shore is noted as the Land of Pleasant Living and it is a special place to work, put down roots, and raise a family.
