Choptank Community Health System’s Abigail Webster, RDN is leading a free, three-part diabetic education series taking place on February 6, March 6, and April 3 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Denton Health Center. Participants will learn about healthier choices to help prevent pre-diabetics from developing Type 2 diabetes. Space is limited for the three-session series, with pre-registration needed.

Choptank Community Health System is partnering with Building African American Minds as a participant in BAAM’s ‘Your Wellness Matters’ program to help address students’ physical and mental health needs through monthly educational sessions.
BAAM’s ‘Your Wellness Matters’ program was recently announced by BAAM Director of Instruction, Academic Support and Community Wellness Dr. James Bell. The program is a component of BAAM’s after-school programs and activities for Easton Elementary School students, with the wellness program receiving grant funding through the Talbot County Health Department and Talbot Family Network.

Choptank Health expands with Chestertown Health Center
Choptank Community Health System has expanded into Kent County at 126 Philosophers Terrace in Chestertown, Md. The community health center is providing primary care services at the location, with new patients currently being accepted. Medical services include primary healthcare, women’s health, pediatrics, behavioral health, chronic health management, and care navigation. Choptank Health’s Chestertown Health Center is open Mon. through Fri., 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and can be reached at 443-215-5353.
Choptank Health Offers Dental & Medical Assistant Scholarships
Choptank Community Health System recently announced a new scholarship program for the nonprofit’s staff and new hires completing Chesapeake College’s Dental Assistant (DA) and Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification programs. Once the licensing exam is successfully completed, approved program participants will be required to agree to a two-year employment commitment with Choptank Health for DA positions or a three-year commitment for CMA positions.
Choptank Health encourages student enrollment in School-Based Health Centers
Choptank Community Health System is encouraging Mid-Shore parents to enroll their children in their public school’s School-Based Health Centers to help keep students healthy throughout the school year.
Choptank Health’s School-Based health centers provide dental services for Dorchester County Public School students and medical and dental services for students in Caroline, Kent, Queen Anne’s, and Talbot County Public Schools. A primary care mobile health unit is also used as part of Choptank Health’s School-Based health center services.
Choptank Health opens School Health Centers in Queen Anne’s, Kent Counties
Choptank Community Health System has expanded its School Based Health Center program into Queen Anne’s and Kent Counties with new centers opening at Church Hill Elementary, Sudlersville Elementary and Middle, and Rock Hall Elementary schools. The centers are made possible through partnerships with each county’s public school system, local health departments, and Maryland Department of Health.
